Historically, orange rutilated crystals have been quite pricey as the supply is extraordinarily limited. Those concerned about ethically harvested crystals can rejoice, because the orange rutilated crystals are collected by hand off-season in fields that are used for farming in Brazil. We were blessed in our recent travels to find a few of these beauties at much more approachable prices.


And this beauty is worth the investment! I will say though, if you are looking for a pristinely pretty crystal, this isn't the one for you. But if you let the magic of this crystal sing to your soul, you will be as entranced as I am. Two crystals nestle together whose points rise above areas of ruggedness (the smaller crystal bearing an Isis face). The exterior is completely natural, and hasn't even had an acid bath. So the original deposits of clay and iron oxide still cling to the exterior snuggled into the nooks and crannies of this formation's self-healings. Exterior deposits combine with the rutiles inside to give this piece an exquisite orange glow. Intriguingly, there are some pale blue-grey chlorite inclusions that create a visual and energetic contrast to the warm rutiles.

A crystal with a five-sided face is called an Isis crystal. The term chlorite actually encompasses a wide variety of minerals, which interestingly does not usually include chlorine as you might think. It is in the silicate family and is associated with clay. It is known for its beautiful formations within crystals, usually as phantoms and often bright green in color. Chlorite can appear red, yellow, white, lavender and black. Sometimes it forms in small crystals and give the appearance of moss within a crystal. Chlorite inclusions give crystals a has strong anti cancer properties. It is a very good crystal for physical regeneration as it helps us absorb and use the nutrients we take in. Rutilated quartz is formed when titanium rich quartz cools from high temperatures and pressures ease. Rutile crystals begin to form, often as fine metallic strands trapped within the quartz.
